N - Dining room
Some views of the original room:
North wall with those dreadful windows.............
South wall showing the 2nd floor before the "railing" was built and the pace underneath became the Great Hall of China and the office/photo space.
East wall showing the platform and the opening into what will become the Music Room
West wall, partial view
West wall, continuation of previous photo, showing entry to service foyer and the space that will become the office/photo area
West wall (after PAINTING!) showing the entry to the service foyer - and YES, the chandelier is hanging askew..........one of the bobeche got broken during the move and I have not found a glue that will repair it securely (Crazy glue did not hold for very long - and when it failed, the pieces fell and broke some items on the dining table.............)
North wall - with poorly disguised ugly windows........and a LOT of stuff that doesn't belong in that room!
North wall again, showing the short east wall, entry into the music room, and overhanging ledge
East wall, entry to music room off to the right
East wall looking into the (dark) music room, library/living room beyond
South wall, (partial) showing entry to stairs/great hall of china and the shelves built on the 2nd floor in lieu of a railing
South wall continued
South wall continued, showing display shelves, Chapel on 2nd floor, and door to service foyer on right. Note the "niche" with the small lamp and collection of cups/saucers (and Bankhead movie card) - a tiny space that would have been solid if I had not needed to balance the door to the stairs/great hall of china at the other end of this wall...............
West wall from the 2nd floor (more recent - and without the crap that doesn't belong in the room!)
Side Track: The pair of console tables that flank the "sideboard" are actually a dining table - I removed the apparatus that allowed it to open to receive an extra leaf and it came apart into 2 pieces - each became a console. I saved the apparatus so the table can be made whole again. The "sideboard" isn't really a sideboard. It WAS a dresser and the headboard from a matching full sized bed. The headboard was too damaged to be used as such (the foot board was even worse!), so I cut the ends off, re-attached them at right angles, and used a piece of one of the bed rails as a shelf. The vanity from this bedroom suite I use as a desk in the Library area.
Center of the room, north wall and platform at the top of photo - side note - those are NOT all throw pillows on the chairs on the platform........they are plates. Had a stack in my hands, no place to put them, so......................BTW -the chairs are wearing covers because they are circa 1920's blue painted kitchen chairs and someone happened to give me the covers as samples.................there is also a matching pair of RRPC jardinieres (2 pc, pot & stand) on the platform with silk ivy in them (yeah, I know -silk ivy?). When all of the leaves are in the table it can seat 12 "comfortably", but I usually limit it to 8 or 10 because of the need for compatible chairs.
East wall, entry to the music room and part of the display ledge
Display Ledge - showing the awful ceiling and the HVAC duct work............ The ledge was necessary as an entry platform in the Christmas closet - note the door on the right hand side. And that is a collection of mostly fairly good Deltware - some tourist stuff, and some stuff that just happened to match colour-wise. And yes the "orange" Occupied Japan plates look slightly out of place, but like the wooden coin bank below them, they have windmills on them and my OCD says that they BELONG with other windmill themed pieces............so HA to you!
